"Your Doing WHAT?" and Updates :)

Your doing WHAT? Vegetarian? or maybe VEGAN? ok.. Ruth, I thought you were CRAZY for educating your kids at home, but now this! You are turning into some kind of hippie!??.. whats going on with you? What happened to the Bacon and Eggs gal I knew?

Well.. friends, I have been re-educating myself.. now I dont what you to think I am so weird as to believe everything I read! But the reading I have done is reinforcing the fact that I had to change the way I eat and the way I have been preparing meals for my family. I will not get on a soap box or anything, and I am not here to judge you and what you eat etc.. but I do want to encourage you to read up on what they feed the cattle, pigs, and chickens, and how they are prepared for sale. It is down right scary. Read and decide for yourself.

Now.. you probably think that all the books I am reading is clouding my judgment, that I am being "persuaded" by these books, but more than that I have been convinced by the way I feel. Last week I went 5 days without meat. I felt better that I have in years. Then Sunday for lunch I had a awesome home cooked hamburger, with a coke. I enjoyed both, esp the coke, since it had been week since I had one. That night I felt awful.. no energy, my tummy hurt, and I put the kids to bed and went to bed early I felt so bad. Monday I felt better but it wasnt until Tuesday that I had all the energy back that I had lost. I know .. you think I am crazy, but I am telling you the only thing that was different in those few days were the coke and the meat. It is now Thursday and I feel great. The old saying "you are what you eat". Well I have come to believe it.

For those who are interested some books I have/am reading I am sure there are more out there but these are the ones that I liked the best so far:
Fast food nation : the dark side of the all-American meal by: Schlosser, Eric.
The food revolution : how your diet can help save your life and our world by: Robbins, John.
Mad cowboy : plain truth from the cattle rancher who won't eat meat by: Lyman, Howard F.

Ok.. now for the stuff you have been wanting to hear about right? the kids and our day.

Yesterday we made a trip to our zoo.. while there we met up with one of the zoo keepers who invited us in to the room where they have birthday parties. Mr Will, (thats what we call him) let us pet a Gecko, a Hog Nosed Snake (sorry Mom) and a Dove (no PawPaw J and PawPaw V we didn't eat it!). Cat and Jo actually got to have the dove sit on their arm for a minute. What a treat!

Later in the day we had fun with our cousins who came over to play and the M's 3 girls. Needless to say last night the kids were in bed EARLY!

Cat has been writing in Chinese that Jessica wrote on the board for us on Tuesday when she came for a visit. Cat really thinks its great! She can write, "I love to study", and "God loves us" in Chinese! how cool.. Jessica we are ready for next weeks lesson! :)

We are planning a garage sale in a few weeks and the kids are going to sell cake, rolls and lemonade. They have figured on their own that a slice of cake with be .50 cents. What a deal!

Last night as I was cleaning the kitchen, Daddy was in the living room reading. The kids had been playing but it got real quiet so I went to check on them. I found all three kids and Daddy sitting all over the living room each reading their own book quietly to themselves. Now how cool is that! I just stood there and looked at all of them, trying to imprint that vision in my mind, AHHH the things that can happen if only given the opportunity.

And can I add, that I LOVE my husband! You should have seen him playing freeze tag with the kids in the front yard the other day! I wish I had my camera with me so I could have taken video of it! So fun!

Today, bread making day, and were off to see some friends. FUN!

The Dangers of Ruth Blogging

ok.. so here I am trying to be computer literate.. I really try my best you know.. well then today when I was working on the lastest blog (see below). I encountered difficulties. The blog would never post.. so .. the computer genius I am, I continued to try and post it over and over.. so now I have totally messed up and have three blogs in a row all the same. "ok" I can fix this.. so I get going on the fixin'..... the dashboard says its fixed.. but the blog is still messed up.. All this to day.. It's dangerous for me and this blogging thing.. I hope you will forgive the repeated postings, it was not intentional :) Its dangerous around here when I am blogging. :)

While I am here I must add a little to the blog.. I just had a wonderful visit with some gals both of whom use to work in the dorm with me. We had lunch and a lazy afternoon just talking! What a blessing to see both of them. It was like Old times! Such a joy! Ya'll come back now ya here! :)

On a side note:(I rembered this story because Nate was just in the bathroom washing his hands and singing "I am all wrapped up all tide up all tangled up in Jesus"... ) Sunday when we were driving home from Church, Nate said: "Mom, God and Jesus are the only REAL superheros!" .. What a great comment. Made us smile.

Have a Happy Day and please ignore the posts if I duplicate this one too :)

Easter, Funny things, and L'Orfeo

Finally a awesome SPRING morning! Its spose to hit the 80s today YIPEE!- and to think.. Easter Sunday there was SNOW on the ground outside! Crazy WTweather.

We had a nice Easter. Sunday after church we went over to Uncle B and D's for hamburgers. And of course we all ate too much! Then that afternoon we went out to S and M's in the country and hunted easters eggs. The kidos had a GREAT time, as they always do when they are with their friends.

On the 5k front. I ran 2 miles yesterday, one mile of which I jogged without walking breaks! YIPEE! I was sooo excited. I wanted to quit sooooo many times, it is interesting how much of running is a mental game with yourself. (and yes mom, my feet are doing fine:)

Some Funny things that have happened the last few days:

There was a lamp in the living room who bulb had burnt out. The kids told Daddy. As Daddy walked into the living room he said: " Well why did it do that?".. Joseph said: "I dont know... I'm not it!!!" .. (he is so funny)

I nate and I were talking this morning and I asked him what he would be when he grew up. He said he would do things boys and Daddies do (this in response to my question are you going to be a ballerina?"). I said.. oh.. What do Daddies do? He said "Work, ............ Build things......... work on the TV....." He also decided that it would be fun cause Daddys get to wrestle.

Cat has been on a reading spree and the last few mornings I have gone into the living room to find her either reading a book to herself or to the boys. What a great thing!
I asked her if there were anything she would like me to get while I was at the homeschool book fair (thats coming up on May 6-7th).. and she asked for a microscope. They do sell refurbished ones at the fair, ones they get from universities etc and recondition and sell, so I will probably look into getting one of those.

OH.. and I almost forgot! Friday night the kids got to watch an Opera,

L'Orfeo, favola in musica, (Claudio Monteverdi) is based on the ancient Greek legend of Orpheus, son of Apollo and Calliope. Orpheus (Orfeo) loves Euridice, and when she dies,Orpheus is so grief stricken that he approaches Pluto, god of the Underworld. He plays his lyre so beautifully that Pluto grants Orpheus the opportunity to descend into Hades to find and return with his beloved Euridice. One condition is made: that Orpheus not look at her as he returns with her to the world of the living. During the return, Orpheus doubts that Euridice is following him, and he looks back at her; as he does so, she vanishes into the shadows of Hades forever.

It was so fun. The kids were glued to the TV. I was so surprised. The Opera had English subtitles so I just read to them what they were singing. The costumes and sets were amazing! Who would have thought, a 8, 5, and 3 year old would be excited about Opera! Ok.. so now on my list of things to do with them when they get older.. go to an Opera. (never thought I would be saying that :)

Well.. the laundry and dishes are screaming at me in there.. math, handwriting, and spelling to do as well. Hope everyone out there has a blessed day!

Latin, Comics, the "Ranch" and Eating Veggies.

Latin, any of you know it? I surely dont know much. But as I sat in a homeschool meeting last night a father shared his ideas on schooling at home. He teaches Latin and Math in his homeschool. That's it. Really.
I thought.. no way.. Latin and math.. thats not enough.. but as he went on to explain, latin is the root of most of our language, and as you learn latin you will naturally branch out into science, history, writing, Bible, etc.. (I have experienced using latin in art and music).. He learned latin at 29 when he was in Grad School. He has been teaching it to his child who, he said loved it for the first three years. (The farther you go in the study the more difficult, the more work, .. which I believe it good).. Wow.. Now.. I know if I showed up at a University when I was a incoming freshman and I had latin for 7-8 years, and could translate the Bible from Latin, to English and then also to Greek (which he also encourages in the later years).. Boy talk about being well educated.

So .. on this homeschooling journey, I enjoy yet another persons perspective and hope to cultivate it and make it our own. What a interesting idea.

on the other hand:

As I was jogging on the treadmill this morning a story came on about schools using comics to teach reading, and/or help reluctant readers. HUM.. To think that of all the wealth of Books out there, great stories, that teach morals, family values, etc..etc.. to settle on comics. To teach mythology using Batman? (nothing against Batman, I LOVED batman when I was a kid.) But of all the ways you could teach mythology, learning about different ancient cultures, and ancient literature...... and they use Batman. hum.. interesting.

Give me the stories of Poseidon, Zues, Helios, Hestia, Demeter, etc.. over Batman anyday.

ON a lighter note..

We have had a fun filled day. Went to a couples "ranch" this morning with K and her kids. We all had a great time. Got to feed Llamas, a baby llama (a cria), some beautiful roosters (I know some of you are probably laughing but those roosters were the prettiest ones I have ever seen)
seven or so goats, and a whole herd of cattle (some with babies). We also got to walk out to two tanks and feed the fish and discovered all kinds of ants, cacti, birds, and flowers along the way. We had a wonderful time and the kids LOVED it!

On our recent trip to the library (yesterday), I had one of those "I love my life moments". Joseph was at the computer looking up a book. He wanted a Berenstain bear book. So I glanced over there and looked and there was jo with a bb book at the computer looking at the word "berenstain" and typing it in.. I said.. "hey jo,, what are you doing?".. he said.. "I am looking up a bb bear book." I said "well, you have one right there and you know where the section is for those, why do you need to look on the computer.." .. he said "Mom, I want a CERTAIN BB book!.. you know that one about..... " I said "oh" and just let him continue.. needless to say we came home with 10 BB Books. (I guess I could say he now officially has the hang of their system huh)

Then as I was looking at books, I turned and noticed Nate on the floor, looking at a book. I said.. "honey, what ya got?, do you want to take it home?".. he said "Oh yeah Mom, its this one about the Cyclops and Odysseus!" (I think he likes that guy better than spiderman)..

And as a last little note about my life.. I have been researching a Vegitarian Diet. (some of you probably think I have fallen and hit my head or something) .. but, you know, after reading what is REALLY in our meat, .. ohh.. its aweful.. and then (while on the treadmill again) I heard the story on the news about the lady who found a finger in her chili at a fast food establishment.. We hardly ever eat out (like once every six months if not less), and I am so thankful, esp. after all the reading I have been doing about the food they are feeding us there.. yikes!

Well.. I am off to open up the windows and let some spring air in, then its laundry time again (And, of course, read read read..)

things I never said when I was a kid

Here are some things that my kids have said to me that I dont think I ever said to my mom and dad..

"Is it going to be dusty outside tomorrow too?"

"WOW, look at the tumble weed!"

"Do you think it will rain this month?"

"Can I do school in my PJs?"

"What's a ditch?"

"Wow mom.. look at the lake, it has water in it!"

"Can I water the yard today?"

Awhh.. the joys of w.t. living.

How about you?....

Dust, Robin, Super Heros

The dust is a blowin outside today so we are inside trying not to sneeze. :)

We have had a busy but fun last few days. We really enjoyed jojo coming for a visit, although too short. It was also a fun weekend with A here, the kids were sad with both visitors left :( yall come back now ya hear!

Daddy and A got to work out in the yard yesterday and seemed to enjoy cutting one of our trees down. The front of the house looks lots better without the dead tree there! They did a great job! The boys enjoyed watching A work on the lawn mower and popping weeds! Daddy went over and worked on Grandma-Bs yard, mowed and weeded it too.. so lots of out door kinda things happening around here.

The kids and I were happy to find a robins bird nest up on our red oak tree. She has atleast two babies hatched already and seems to be sittin on some more eggs. We watched as she found the best worms and took them up to the nest where the little baby birds heads would pop up.. so fun! (I just hope the cat doesnt find them.. i guess if he does we will learn a real life lesson about the food chain huh).

I am still feeling tired and hope to figure out why soon. I suspect thyroid problems. We'll See I guess. I have been debating calling the doc for a few weeks but yesterday when I was mowing our yard I had to stop and take breaks and REALLY talk myself into finishing it. Its is just not my nature to be that way.. I LOVE to mow the yard!

Jo is doing great.. he told me yesterday :"Mom, I feel back to normal" sounded like he was 15 instead of 5. .. (he is so funny).
N and j were playing super heros the other day and I asked who they were, well j was Robin, C was batman (my kinda gal), and N .. he was "Electric Hawk".. I assume he made that up.. I dont know of an Electric Hawk anyway.. maybe you do. :)

C was excitted to get a letter in the mail today from cousin S. ! She really LOVES getting letters from her. She is also happy that she has ONE page left in her handwriting book! One more cursive book and well be done.

I am off to get the house cleaned up .. (the never ending project).. today is laundry day.. so I guess john denver will help us fold the clothes.

As that saying says: " Clean houses never last but hugs and kisses always do"

Isnt It Funny

Isnt it funny:
an orange is called an orange but an lemon is not called a "yellow" and what about the lime.. shouldnt it be called a "green". hum...

that call waiting is called call waiting. It should instead be called "call interupting", I mean, who really waits, no one, they INTERUPT, if they were waiting they could just get a busy signal, WAIT and call back in 10 mins.. (see how that works?)

that blinkers make that funny (blink...blink) sound when you turn. I mean .. who thought of that sound anyway.. wouldnt it be funnier if it was a neat sound, like the crinkling up of paper, or the water dripping in the bathtub, or .. hey.. I got it.. the sound a balloon makes as it flies across the room untied... yeah.. that would be funny.

that there are some things that happed 20 years ago I remember vividly, but something that happened yesterday I have already forgotten, oh no wait.. maybe that was last week...

that electronic mail is called E-mail but Paper mail is not called P-mail?

you are still reading this blog,, of all the things in the world to be doing.. now THATs funny. Go wash the dishes, clean out the car, read a book, braid your cats hair, count out how many toothpicks are left in that little container.. now THAT would be time well spent..

Visitors, Books, and Comments

Wow! What a busy day. Yesterday I actually got up and walked 1.5 on the treadmill, its my first time back on after having my feet start hurting a week or so ago.. I am taking it sloooooow now.. just gona do everyother day for a while. The 5k is getting closer and I want to run atleast part of it if I can.

The kids are doing great. We had lots of visitors yesterday. Nana and PawPaw, Uncle A, the M Gang, what fun!

Uncle A brought his fridge for us! We are "purchasing" it from him, what a blessing! I just cant get over the water and ice coming out of the door like that! Wow! We also had perfect timing on the selling of our old fridge, it was gone on the first call and taken out of the house about 5 min after A drove up with the new one! What timing!

Yesterday morning the kids and I got to watch the NASA station and got a tour of the ISS. They really enjoyed the tour and thought it was funny the astronauts slept standing up. Joseph and I read a great book while at the docs office about Electricity. (Magic School Bus ROCKS!) Joseph loved the part when the Friz shrank everyone and put them inside the steam pipes and then to the turbine, and laughed hard at the part when the class was inside the light bulb at the library.

We are still reading Caddie Woodlawn and cant wait to see what happens. I thought it would be fun to list all the books we have read (chapter books)... And I would love to hear what your favorite books where when you were growing up. I NEVER read when I was little (too busy being a tom boy I guess) and so I am LOVING these stories. ok.. heres our list
All 9 Little House on the Prairie Series, Pattington Bear, Charoletts Web, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, The Sign of the Beaver, Where the Red Fern Grows (that was one of Daddys favorites when he was little), The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Snot Stew (didnt like this one, should've stopped reading but read it anyway, it's cute but they fuss alot), The Black Stallion (I think we have two chapters left in this book but had to return it to the library), The Courage of Sarah Noble, The Odyssey, The Illiad (have three chapters left), The kids all love Where the Sidewalk Ends ............thats all I can remember right now.. I know there is more but I cant remember them.. humm..
Some of our favorite "picture books" .. All the Demi Books-eps The Empty Pot and The Hungry Coat, All of Mem Fox's Books-esp "Boo To a Goose", The Math Book Series-"Sir Cumference and the Knights of the Round Table." etc, Peter Sis Books, They also love "Science Verse" which is a poem book about science,..... Oh my list on these could go on and on..

I have done some adjustments to the blog so hopefully you can leave a comment on it now if you want. I am not sure if I did it correctly so sorry if you have trouble. I am off to clean the kitchen and get the kidos ready for piano.

"Joy was just the thing he was raised on"

Yes, and joy was just the thing that he was raised on
Love is just the way to live and die
Gold is just a windy Kansas wheatfield
And blue is just a Kansas summer sky
(click on John Denver below for the rest of the lyrics)

The Words above are to a song by John Denver I got a cd from the library to listen to. Mostly for the "Grandmas Feather Bed" song. (I LOVED that song when I was a kid and it brought back great memories, dancing around the house when I was little..what joy! {thanks Mom and Dad} ) ANYWAY.. I was listening to this other song he wrote and the lines above stuck me... what a great life this man lived.
To be raised on Joy, Love and that the Gold of the wheatfield was enough. .. He was never blue.. that was just the color of the sky... so.. I guess he was thankful, he knew the things that mattered, and he was content. What a blessing!

On a lighter note.. "Thank God I am a Country Boy" is a great song to do the hoe down with your favorite 8 year old, in between folding the clothes. :)

Kid Update and Deep Thoughts

What a cold and rainy day here! I thought spring was on it's way but winter is fighting back. I am thankful though that I dont live way up north where the winters last so much longer.

The last few days have been full of friends and lots of fun! The kids so loved having their friends over to play esp. since we had been sick and recoverying from surgery for so long. Jo is doing great. We go back to the doctor tomorrow and hope to be released to run, jump, and wiggle to our hearts content.

I have recently started playing my clarinet again and it has been so fun. The kids each try and play it and of course are learning practice is the key to playing an instrument. I am hoping that Cat and I can play a duet (her on the piano), should be fun trying. I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed playing. I have been really surprised how much I remember too! All those hours of playing the fight song when I was in highschool and I am shocked I cant remember any of it!! Weird.

Cat has been doing lots of cooking in the kitchen and is becoming a great cook and helper. She made Daddys birthday cake (from scratch), and has been making our homemade dinner rolls the last few meals. Its amazing how quickly I can get a meal together when she is helping in the kitchen.
Jo and Nate have been pretending the days away, which is fun to watch and hear. I asked Nate last night what he wanted to be when he grew up and he said a builder and a glass maker. (interesting).. then he got silly and started looking around the room and said "a curtain maker, a table maker, a chair maker. (hhheee)." What a funny little guy.
Jo has loved a little stuff dog that his Nana gave him after his surgery. He wagged it around everywhere the first four days or so after. He named him Jack. It is amazing the things Jack can do. All kinds of flips, he also plays monopoly and eats crackers very well!

I have been a little down about not being able to run. I have this five k coming up and last week my feet started hurting again so I have taken about 7 days off. The feet feel better now so I am planning on walking this afternoon. If you have happy feet, be very thankful for them!

Sleep,,, Ahhh.. precious sleep! I finally decided my being tired all the time was cause I hadnt gotten any sleep the last 3 months! After three nights of full sleep I woke up feel so good! I also started taking my vitamins again and that probably has LOTS to do with feeling good too.

I have been reading two books by a lady named Nancy Wilson. One is called "Praise Her at the Gates:the calling of Christian Motherhood" and the other is called "The Fruit of Her Hands."
They are both wonderful! I first read excerpts off of Amazon and was so impressed I requested it from our libraries inter-library loan department. They are short books (only 100 pages or so) but they are full of scripture and prespectives which grabs my interest so much I am delving deeper into the scriptures. Its the kind of book to have around to read and reread. Such encouragement. Throughout both books is the scripture from Titus 2:4
"Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be selfcontrolled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."
Wow, how far off this is from what the world tells us. The world says, "who needs a husband, who needs a father for your children, the kids can entertain themselves and are getting in my way of what I want to do." The world says you can have it all, but this scriptures says it all. We are to LOVE our husbands and children, not feel like they are just another burden in our day. We are to be busy at home. (note: "at home" not running here and there like chickens with our head cut off.) I could "have it all" from what the world says but the cost is too great. What are they asking me to pay? My family? My husband? My health? NO! Life is too short.

Definately blessed to be home!

Caddie, Monopoly, Agamemnon, and Hammurabi

Ok.. so I have been reading Caddie Woodlawn to the kids and the other night I read a section about a big boy in the school who gets in a fight with Caddie. The boy is a trouble maker and (long story short) he ends up getting .. as the book describes: " A whippin on the part of his person he is usually uccustomed to sitting on" Well.. needless to say.. I had to explain to Nate what in the world that was saying.. He finally laughed and said.. "OH.. spanked on his bottom!" .. well.. last night I was going to start reading again.. and as I always do .. I asked.." do yall remember what happened last time?" .. and Nate said.. "yeah.. that bad boy got spanked on his PERSON!" .. that was funny!

JO is doing good.. still taking it slow.. yesterday we had a hour and 1/2 long game of monopoly. (Nate won)... then Legos, coloring, and video games. Jo and I went outside while Cat and Nate were still napping and filled the bird feeder, he was happy to be outside. He is also counting the days until he can ride his bike again :)
We also got to watch a little show on tv about Greece, we were excitted to see the ancient city of Mycenae, and hear the narrator talk about Agamemnon and others we have talked about. (FUN!). Its so neat to see the kids get excitted and say: "hey.. that was the guy who...... " or whatever..
The other day Cat was watching an old star trek episode and she came running in the kitchen and said... "Hey Mom.. they just talked about Hammurabi on star trek!"
(Little historical insert here: Hammurabi was the great king of Babylon who wrote a code of laws for his people. Although it is not the first set of laws in history it is the most well preserved. The laws were discovered in 1901 and are in the Louvre Museaum in Paris today.)

I am still tired and dont know if I will ever wake up feeling rested again. Lack of sleep is a exausting thing! (hehe)..

All is Well

Well... the wait was finally over and at noon today we came home with a sleepy but spunky Jo. The surgery went very well and other than being a little upset going to sleep and waking up he did wonderfully! I am so glad it is over and thank all of you for praying for sweet Jo.

I am tired but seems I have reached the point of not being sleepy (reminds me of my dorm days) so I should not be held responsible for any unusual things I might write on this blog. (Those of you from my hall directing days know that when I am tired, I get a little silly).

Jo filled the rest of the day with the game cube (Star wars and some racing games) and a movie. He also had a few visitors who brought sweet gifts which he just loved! E and her family brought a delicious roast and the fixings (what a blessing E-THANKS!). I was very thankful to not have to fix supper tonight. I could just concentrate on sweet Jo.

I will write more tomorrow when I am rested. For now.. goodnight and dont let the bed bugs bite!

OH by the way.. we got the bathroom "finished".. the mirror is back up and the room mostly dust free, although with that dust from the sheetrock mud I am sure I will be finding dust in there for a few weeks. The main thing is it all bleached and ready to get dirty again! (hehe) ..

I off to the couch for now.. and definately VERY blessed to have such a tough, sweet, and couragous Jo, and very happy to be home, together.

Pre-occupied, HEB, and my will.

Sorry havent blogged in a while, I've been a little pre-occupied. Jo's surgery is T-minus 1 day and counting and I am ready for it to be all over with. We had pre-admit today and I was very thankful Jo didnt have to go with us for that. I said before seems like it is always harder on Mom and Dad than on the kido and that sure seems the case. Jo is just has a "OK, No Big Deal" kinda attitude. I told Daddy tonight that I have been telling myself over and over "God's word says not to worry" but boy howdy that is hard some times isn't it. All I guess we can do is pray and trust that God has a plan.

As far as the last few days we have been just being us I guess. Joel has been working hard on the bathroom and it is looking great! The kids and I have taken a little break from the school work this week. They have been playing lots the last few days and doing lots of painting, and drawing. The kids and I went to HEB this morning and then Walmart. We had a great time at both places. The kids enjoyed talking to each other at HEB about how fun it would be if the ac ducts were slides and water slides. (funny). They were also excitted to hold a pappaya (sp?) and were really wanting to buy some mini bananas (have you seen those?) but when I explained that the mini bananas were 99c a pound and the organic reg bananas were 79c a pound they decided the reg bananas were the better deal. It was also entertaining to see their reactions to seeing r2D2 on the cover of a cheeseits box.. and then nate begain to sing the theme song to star wars in the middle of the cracker isle and down to the frozen apple juice section. At walmart the fish had signs on the tanks saying they were sick. We had a interesting discusion about "how do you know if a fish is sick?" .. I said they probably took thier temperature (the kids thought that was funny) .. we dicided they actually test the water or something..

The kids have been talking lots about Daddys birthday that is tomorrow. In talking about what to get Daddy, Jo said "I want to give him a jar of pickles and a card" Cat said "a Flashlight and a card" Nate said.. well to be honest at this moment none of us can remember what Nate said. But then Jo decided he wanted to give Daddy "LOVE" .. I said that was a great gift and the kids all agreed to give Daddy "Love" too. OK.. so how sweet is that? I am glad I am doing this blog so all yall can read it and keep up with us.. but mostly I think it will be a great place to put stories like that about the kids that I will probably forget in a few months. (maybe sooner if I dont start getting more sleep). :) The kids got a great laugh out of watching Tanner get up on the roof this afternoon and were of course hollering to me to come out and see .. more because they thought he couldnt get down by himself.

Sunday I was amazed at nate and he sat in my lap for atleast an hour working on one of those sliding puzzles with the 16 squares. The one he was working was of superman. He got his face and chest all put together where it goes .. I asked him if he had ever put the whole thing together and he just said "no" (real serious). I was just shocked how he worked and worked and didnt give up. (Until of course he thought he heard his Daddy and Jo wrestling in the living room. but it was a false alarm.. and a few seconds later he was back in my lap to "finish" the puzzle. ) I just keep telling myself.. hes only 3. .....Cat read and recited poems to NaNa and PawPaw who came over for Sunday Lunch. NaNa made a great roast and fixins. YUM.

OH and later Sunday I got out my clarinet and played a little for the kids. I then went to the attic to hunt for my old music from highschool. Well I didnt find the music but I did find a bunch of letters Daddy and I had written to each other when were dating and then newly married. I had some AWEFUL poems I wrote..I mean CHEESY! ( nate could probably write many lots better than I did).. I also found a "will" I had jotted down.. now that was funny.. Sorry big brother I only left you my books, my tennis racket and a bottle of ketchup. Well. needless to say we laughed and laughed at those letters, we were so young! Great memories! :)

Here's to those great days and hopefully many more to come. Blessed to be here in many ways, more than I can count and treasuring every minute I can.

The Wiggles, Ancient China, and M&Ms

The kids really seemed to enjoy yesterday. E and her sweet kids couldn't come over like they usually do on Wednesday mornings (baby had fever:( ), which made us sad. And sweet K stayed at home with her Mom yesterday cause they were not feeling well.

But we survived the morning with a little TV (the wiggles, stanley), and then coloring, and just creative play. Of course we squeezed in math and handwritting of which Cat was happy to figure out she only had 6 more days in her cursive book and she would be finished!. We also caught a show about Ancient China on HD Discovery which was great. The Great Wall of China... did you know they estimate something like 1million people died building it? The Forbiddin City.. 200 acres and beautiful colors, mythological creatures, and curved roofs to keep evil spirits away... The Silk Road, and of course the Terra Cota Soldiers, amazing.. (Have I said before I love ancient history?)

After lunch the 3m's came over to play for the afternoon and of course the kids were so happy to see them. They played horses, built with blocks, and painted the afternoon away. I made m&m cookies from "There's a Chef in My Soup" cookbook by Emril Lagase... they were really good despite I only had half the amount of m&ms called for( I tried real hard to ignore all that bad food coloring in the m&ms and just enjoy them). NaNa dropped by twice bringing Easter pencils the first time and stickers from Grandma B the second time. Such nice surprises!

After I took the 3Ms home and got a look at the work their mom and dad have done to their house. (it looks really good by the way).. I dropped by the grocery store to get some speg. sauce so I could make pizza. The kids played a little on the computer (math) and after supper it was time for baths, books, and bed. I was in bed by 915.. which is unusual for me! but I feel much better this morning. Amazing what sleep will do for a Mom! I did wake up at about 11 and found my sweet husband cleaning the kitchen! He is the best!

I am hoping today to get to some reading of the iliad, to the library (have a book on hold I need to pick up) and to walmart.. oh and need to take the cat (Tanner) in for his shots. Oh.. and I would love to get in a mile or so on the treadmill before the day is out. (yesterday I ran about 2.75 miles.. when I say run.. for furture reference.. I am not running the whole thing.. I run a while, walk a while, I dont want yall to think I am some kind of super runner or something.. Just a mom trying to get back in shape and pretty much out of breath the whole way!)

One little short story before I go... just a minute ago Jo was on the potty. Nate had put in a video from the library and ran into the bathroom and told Jo. "You need to come see this" and ran out. Jo said.. "What?" .. "Well bring it in here!" (I guess Jo didnt realize Nate was talking about the TV) and Nate yelled back "I CANT BRING THE TV TO THE BATHROOM!" .. Jo said "Why Not?" and they just laughed and laughed.. .. so funny.. so cute!

So Blessed!

Yesterday and Today

Just yesterday I was thinking how much better I feel. This morning I am still thinking, "I felt so much better yesterday" oh well.

We had a great day yesterday. Had our friend over to play yesterday morning and then vistors in the afternoon as well. Cat enjoyed doing her spelling on a new website I found and the boys built with blocks, legos, and lincoln logs. Math, reading and handwriting found their way in there somewhere.. so we got it all in. :) We listened to our skip counting tape and then School House Rock (remember "Three is a Magic Number" and "Zero My Hero" great fun!)

When Daddy came home from work he and I primed the bathroom walls. Oh the memories the smell of oil base kilz brings back (pawpawT). Of course Daddy was going to do the whole thing but when I saw that paint brush I just couldn't pass the oportunity to do the cuttin' in.

I was unable to get on the treadmill until 5pm yesterday but had a good two mile run. It is amazing how much better I feel after a run. I always wonder why it is so hard to get on the thing in the first place when it does wonders for how I feel. Its about 7.5 weeks until the 5k race, I am hoping I will be up to that distance by then. :) I tell you if it wasnt for the fact that I knew I had a race in a few weeks I wouldnt have gotten on that thing. Funny what motivates huh.

We were all excitted yesterday morning when I turned on HD discovery and found they were doing a story on the ancient people of Nubia. The kids and I studied the Nubians a while back and it was excitting to see the archeologists digging up an old temple and discovering pots, rams statues, etc... Ahh the joys of ancient history! :) And can I say I LOVE it when those shows use computer animation to draw on top of the digs what they think the temple (or whatever) looked like! so Cool!

Well. I am hoping to get to the library this morning Cat has a list of things she wants to get and of course we have things that need to be taken back. You know you are going to have a great day when it involves getting to go to the library. :)

... ok.. after a few interuptions.. including the trip to the library I am back to finish this blog.. :)
the library was great fun. Cat is happy to get some cook books and hopes to make some pretzels this afternoon. Jo got his typical books about animals (dolphins this time) and a ranger rick magizine. Nate is excitted about his books on super heros, and one about the history of popcorn.(interesting huh). They were all excitted about a poem book call science verse and couldnt wait to listen to it in the car on the way home. (as we were listening in the car cat said.. "ok mom.. the second one.. that is about evolution.. just skip it." :) I on the other hand got one called Run For IT.. (about womens running).. of course my pick isnt as excitting as Science verse, super heros, or the new DK Lego book but I think it will be good. :)

Off we go to clean the kitchen and then read some of our discovery mags that paw pawt sent. :)
