Jabberwocky, Photons and Taking Things Apart

Well I wasnt going to sit down but I just had too. I ran this morning which is fine.. but add on to that a trip to the library and HEB.. then a hour cleaning at home.. and well.. I MUST sit down.. or my feet will not forgive me.

I do have a few things about the kids I wanted to post so I dont forget them.
First of all Joseph is fine... the doc said he would grow out of it.. we will have to make sure he has high quality shoes when he gets to be a teenager but other than that he should be fine.

The kids have really gotten into a poetry CD that Melissa shared with us.. anyway.. they are on a quest to learn Jabberwocky, by Lewis Carroll. (I am sure the fact that M and M have it memorized has NOTHING to do with that :) .. ANYWAY .. I have heard the poem so many times I should have it memorized but I dont. We were riding in the car on the way home from HEB and another poem on the CD comes on.. and I said.. OH this is by the same person that did Jabberwocky!" and Catherine replies.. without a seconds pause.. "NO MOM>> this poem is by Robert Lewis Stephenson.. Jabberwocky is by Lewis Carroll!" ... ........
"OH.. yes .. very good.. you are right.. my mistake!"

Last night Joseph was wondering what a X ray was. (He knew the doc was going to take a xray but didnt know what it was).. I said.. well. .. a x ray is a picture they take that shows the bones inside your body.. he said.. "OH.. I KNOW That.. I mean.. how does it work?" .. of course .. off to the internet.. heres what if found:
"x-ray (n.) A relatively high-energy photon having a wavelength in the approximate range from 0.01 to 10 nanometers."
I read that to Joseph and then he says.. "oh.. ok.. .. so what is a photon?"..
(can I just pause here and minute and say.. HE IS SIX YEARS OLD! I am going to explain what a PHOTON is to a 6 year old! .. .. ).. so here is what I found:
"photon (n.) The quantum of electromagnetic energy, regarded as a discrete particle having zero mass, no electric charge, and an indefinitely long lifetime."
Joseph said.. OH.. OK.... so what does the machine actually look like? .. so I found a picture and showed it to him.. He said.. Oh.. ok .. thanks Mom! and ran off..

Nathan has become fasinated once again with taking things apart.. I had a little disusion this afternoon about how some things are made to NEVER be taken apart.. from now on.. if he wants to take something apart. he has to come and ask mom or dad.. (I can just see walking into his room and the keyboard of the computer or the bed or something has been dismantled!) Also .. today at the library the kids were looking at a Jabberwocky book and nathan read "the slithy toves" .. (so .. he's FOUR!...... atleast i think he is four.. isnt he?) .. wow!

(all in a day's work I say)
so with that .. I will leave you.. as my feet ache.. with the poem you have hear so much about..

JABBERWOCKY

Lewis Carroll

(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

I should have it memorized by my 40th birthday.. thats 2 years.. yeah.. that's it!

Beautiful Morning!

What a beautiful cool morning here! It could only be better if it were raining!
I think we will have a rain party in our family when it actually does rain again.

The family is doing great, we had a nice long weekend. Yesterday we went out to get some more firewood at S and Ms and you should have heard the girls scream when the kids ran out to them to play on the trampoline! It was great! We visited and ate pizza.. what a fun night.
When we got home all the kids and Dad got a much needed hair cuts.

I take Jo to the doc in the morning, he will get xrays. He has never had them before so I hope that goes well. I sure hate exposing him to all that but what can you do? Jo has asked me to create a blog for him he wants to call it BIGJO.. I guess he doesnt have any self image issues.:) .. I will try and get that done this morning.

I have a long list of things to get done today and I know I wont have them all done.. but conquering the pile of clean laundry and the pile of dirty laundry are on the top of the list.

Cat has really been enjoying writing on her blog and of course checking to see if there are any comments. We went this weekend to buy her shoes. She is in a womans size 6.. getting ever closer to her Moma.. which blows my mind she is growing up so fast.

Nate has become VERY interested in the piano. He has used the computer in the thing to teach himself how to play the theme to Star Wars. Of course he will not play it from memory on demand, but boy can he play that when he thinks no one is listening.

Our week

We have had a great week. We are all healthy, happy, and so far well rested. I started working out again and eating right and I feel so much better!

I took Joesph to the dr on friday.
He has a foot that is turning inward too much. Dr said he has internal tibia torsion. We go to the orth. (bone doc) on wednesday of next week and will see what he has to say. My doc said they would probably do some kind of orthodic for his shoes... to help correct the problem.. we'll see.

Macy had a bday sleep over last night. We all went to the party and Cat stayed the night. She had a great time and is still trying to wake up from a two hour nap she took to recover from all the fun they had (like waking up at 430 this morning).

The boys are doing great. Enjoying the Saturday and getting to play with Macy and Miranda. Its fun to sit here and listen to the boys playing their game cube, they LOVE that thing.. and only get to play on the weekends so they are really soaking it in.

We all enjoy being able to just relax and be together these days. I know as the kids get older it will be harder to keep them not so busy.. so I am trying hard to cherish these days. The kids are just growing up so fast.. I wish I could push a pause button!

this is a pic I took from the car on the way home from christmas. There was a ton of dust in the air and we could hardly see the sun.. little did I know it was probably more smoke than dust.. Smoke from Crossplains. :( .. if you look closely to the right of the tree you can see a dot that was the sun.

long time no post

Well I sure has been a long time since I posted on the blogs. We have discontinued internet service for the month of dec. but will be getting something soon so I can post from home and load pics (i have lots of pics). I have been coming to the library or Js office to check email every few days, it will be nice to have access again. I guess I have been pretty spoiled.

We are all doing good. Enjoying some time off from "school" but will start back up on Monday. Joel has started the remodel on our master bathroom. We are down to studs.. even on the ceiling in there.. you can see straight to the rafters.. sure does make it cold in there!

I enjoyed reading Memoirs of a Geisha over the holidays, it was a great book .. though sad. I hope to get to see the movie soon. I have also started working out again and it sure did feel good to get up and run this morning!

Well.. not much else.. I am needing to finish up with this so I can get to HEB and get my organic fruit and lettuce :)

Happy 2006
